Dick & Lois Evans

We have had dogs all our lives! Dick grew up with mixes; Lois had a cocker spaniel and an Irish setter.

We bought our first Corgi, Spot, in 1968 in Calgary, Alberta. We moved to Syracuse, NY, in 1970 and joined the Syracuse Obedience Training Club. Lois got serious about training and started competing, was an officer of the club, and taught obedience classes. Dick eventually decided to train his new Corgi, Sweet Sara. Sara and Dick did well from the start of training and Dick was hooked!

We’ve had 10 Corgis over the past 45 years. We were fortunate to find wonderful Corgi breeders whose dogs loved performance events. Lois and Opus started agility when it was first introduced and entered one of the first rally trials held in NY State.

When we retired, we moved to Hilton Head Island, where we trained with Carol Mett, followed by a move to Aiken, SC, where Lois taught obedience and rally. We also trained under Bob and Cathy Knight and Connie Cleveland.

We’ve had several proud moments with our dogs through the years, as all the Corgis loved doing obedience. Mick got High in Trial at the Corgi Nationals eight years ago at age 2. He got a TDX three years ago and his Dock Diving title last year. Dick’s dog, Halle, earned 45 UDX legs. Both Halle and Mick received the Versatile Corgi Excellent title from the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of America - the highest award given.

We moved to Cary five years ago to be near our daughter and her family and joined DKC. We both have enjoyed tracking, teaching obedience and taking some of the great classes that are offered. We have made wonderful new and supportive friends through this club for which we are very grateful.
