When I was in 4th grade my family got our first dog, Lucky. He was a small medium sized mixed breed dog. I used to love taking him for long walks and just playing with him. He started my lifelong passion for dogs. Since him I have never been without at least one dog.
As an adult I got my first pure bred dog, a Chinese Shar-Pei named Agina and then had quite a few over the years. I started training with an adult education basic obedience course then loved it so much that I found a local club to continue training. I joined the club and even became an instructor. Then I trained at a school that taught competitive obedience. Unfortunately, Shar-peis do not like training as much as I do, so I needed to find another breed to train.
About this time I discovered agility. This is when I got my first border collie, Rocket. Rocket did get a CD in obedience, dabbled in flyball and competed in agility. Since then I have owned mostly border collies and a papillon. Agility has been my main focus for many years, but since becoming a member of Durham Kennel Club, I have also begun rally and scent work with multiple dogs.
I moved to North Carolina from NJ about 4 years ago when I retired. Soon after, I joined DKC. I luckily live relatively close so I can take advantage of the diversity of classes offered here. I do believe that my agility border collies are benefitting from the new venues that we are exploring. We have fun and there is always something new to train.
I am an agility instructor for DKC as well as being an AKC agility judge and a UKI agility judge. My boy Thruster finished his MACH2 and his MACH3 at DKC trials. It was so much fun to finish both of these at my home club.
