Mary and Anthony became involved in more formal dog training about 15 years ago. They have been members of the Durham Kennel club for roughly 10 years.
They love Borzoi and have three at this time: Danya, Altai, and Finland. They also have a Field Spaniel named Kip. Both Mary and Anthony have enjoyed teaching classes in basic obedience and in beginning agility for the DKC.
Mary has taken numerous classes through the DKC for her obedience prospects, including AKC Star Puppy and Obedience / Novice. The instructors have offered a warm and caring environment with plenty of personalized instruction.
Currently, Mary is working with Kip and preparing to enter Beginner Novice trials.
Mary and Anthony have had many types of dogs through the years. Along with the Borzoi and Spaniel, hounds, Golden Retrievers, Scotties, and a Sheltie have shared their lives. Mary and Anthony love this integral and rewarding sport! And with that, a few quotes to remember when working with your best friend:
“Training a dog isn’t about dominance, it’s about establishing a relationship of mutual respect.” “Training is not a sprint, it’s a marathon.”
