Agility Class Information
Spring 2008

6:30pm - 7:30pm Short Sequence Class
7:45pm - 8:45pm Obedience for Agility Class

 

Short Sequence - This class will focus on teaching dogs and handlers how to successfully negotiate short sequences of obstacles, with emphasis on how to evaluate a sequence of obstacles, successful handling options and techniques, when and how to change sides, improving weave pole execution, and learning which handling techniques best suit your own dog. Bitches in season are allowed at the handlers own risk, but must wear protective britches.  
Class meets for 6 weeks.   Class will meet Monday, March 10 and 24, April 7, 14, and 28, and May 5.   March 17 and April 21 are DKC meeting nights NO CLASS.  Class starts at 6:30 and concludes at 7:30 pm.   Students are expected to help put away agility equipment at the end of class or help set up for next class.
Instructors: Mary Whorton and Ann Carter
Prerequisite: Successful completion of the obstacle familiarization, or short sequence class or instructor approval.  Dog must be at least 12 months old and exhibit no aggressive behavior towards humans or dogs.

Obedience for Agility – This class will focus on teaching the required obedience skills necessary to succeed in agility and subsequently be able to enroll in obstacle familiarization in a future session.  This will include but not be limited to: off lead reliable recall in an active agility setting, sit and down stay, walk on both left and right side of handler, send to target and come back, leave it, and no sniff.  Bitches in season are allowed at the handlers own risk, but must wear protective britches.
